"The company on Thursday launched a Web site, Google Code Search, which the company says will let programmers search billions of lines of code for tips on how to write their own software.

The service, conceived by the Google Labs early technology group, will crawl publicly available code, most of which is made available through open-source projects. The search and indexing covers code on Web pages and code that resides in compressed files, said Tom Stocky, a product manager at Google.

Google expects that the search engine will be used primarily as a learning tool to help students and serious programmers, rather than a way to find and copy another person's code."

As a programmer this tools will be helpful, I have been trying to search for code in google before, the result always came out of dissapointment, this tools is great. Too bad, it was just for testing right now.

I think hackers out there is finding a way to exploit this site and it might have alot of bugs to be fix by google staff. Well, it always a tools to be misuse.

Since it's a new service by google, can't wait to try it, I just click "perl Frodo" which is already on Google Code Search itself. What shock me was this (See Image Below)

Wow, Look at that? google go in depth through every file on the web server which is non secure and dig this code out. all source code is revelead without personally extracted it. Look ! it's a zip file. Hacker should find this google code search useful and handy.

What's more shocking is that the password is shown. If I do not know the file was there and since it wasnt extracted and read through line by line, I wouldn't know that the password was there but google search it and shown it.

Program in the picture could be some kind of testing application. What if someone accidently store a database password inside a file and Google Search Code just could index it.

It seems that Google Code Search has under estimate hackers. The search tool is also proving to be a source of humour for the geek community. This will be interesting to see. I will be looking forward to this service.
