I think is time again to blog about SEO, I hope Part 1 do give some idea about what is SEO, it was just basics of SEO, however I think if you guys would like to go deeper. I had personally read 2 books and it's quite helpful, Search Engine Optimization: An Hour a Day & Search Engine Optimization For Dummies, Second Edition.
If you already know the theory, sometimes it takes time to really put into practical. I had this difficulty as well. Even if you had apply all the necessary changes to your site, it might not reflect immediately, you will have to wait for search engine bot to crawl your site and this take couple of days or weeks, depend on your pagerank. If something is not working well, you will have to go through waiting the same cycle again. It's quite time consuming, but anyhow, SEO need a lot of patient.
SEO for blogs could be different from other static site with minimal changes (refer to frequent post and content), unlike ecommerce or corporate site, blog are updated frequently. Sometimes you may find it difficult to actually aim a keyword or so, you won't be blogging the same keyword or title all the times. The good thing about blog is the frequency of change, the change refer to your posting. Search engine is smart enough to actually see the pattern changes in your site, example cnn.com site, search engine crawl that site every 10 to 15 minutes due to frequency of change. I personally don't have much time to write 3 posts per day, ideally 3 posts per day would make search engine actively crawl your site more often. Provided also on how popular topic of your content. Not all post have to be in lengthy articles, make it a primary post and 2 secondary posts, secondary posts can be just a few paragraphs and link to some useful links or video (Youtube).
Optimized your site for search engine?
This is interesting part, I'm not SEO guru, but I'm interested in SEO, hope you do find this information useful as this is what I had compile from reading several source I come across.
Get lots of links back to your site
HOT & Interesting Title (This refer to blog) - This might be universal, for writer, they would think of an interesting title to captivate people to continue read more. But for blog or SEO, it could potentially lead people to link to your site. For example, I blog about Radio Blog and Blogmusik, I actually find out there are 2 or 3 music blog site or forum refer my post in their website. Most importantly or may be hard to always do this, your title should always have keyword related to your post.
Directory - No matter what seo book or seo site, they always refer you to get a link from DMOZ or Yahoo directory. Why? Because this 2 directory got pagerank 8. If you refer to Part 1 chart, you will notice DMOZ supplies directory results to 8 search engine (including Google). Yahoo supplies directory results to only 1 (alta vista) search engine. Yahoo is a paid directory and DMOZ is free. However, there are tons of free directory out there, try searching around and submit your url, please also link your site to my directory for free at bizolink directory (approve in 24 hours upon submit). Frankly to say that FREE is always nothing best, it's free because of low pagerank, it doesn't worth much to your site, but in long run, when the directory increases its pagerank, and you would get benefit from it.
Spy your competitor link coming from - I'm sorry to use the word spy, this is actually what it is. Some site would have visitor counter (sitemeter or statcounter) which is for public access. You can take a look at their referral to know actually where their visitors coming from, if they don't allow public access, you can actually use the google "link" parameter or yahoo "linkdomain" parameter to look for the backlink. This is good to actually know where your competitors get their link from and you could actually follow them. Don't forget to check your own visitor counter, the more direct link to your site is more better than more link from referral, because people come to your site because of your establish brand. They remembered your link not through referral link.
Swap link - If your site is working well, sometimes you would received email asking you to swap link with their website. This is because they would like to get some traffic from your site and also to bring up their pagerank (Mostly lower pagerank than your's). Is good to actually checked the site before swapping link, this is to prevent your site from downgrading of pagerank, if you link to a site that is banned or illegal site, your pagerank could get affected as well. If that's your friend, I guess it should be no problem. After all is a win-win situation. If you tend to swap link with others, prepared a good and polite email asking for link swapping and is nice to actually being proactive to add their link to your site first before sending them email to show your sincerity. You can't expect every email you sent will get reply, if you sent out 10 and get 1 reply, actually you are doing well.
Write and submit articles - What is so good about articles submission, this is probably the best way to get lots of link. Why? Because if you wrote an article and submit to recognized article submission site. You get a link from article submission site and probably hundred or thousand of publisher would go to recognized article submission site and seek for article to publish on their website. If your submitted content is good and useful, chances your article will get published by many other sites are high and condition your link must be there. Imagine 100 people publish your article, you got 100 links back to your site. Don't worry about publisher changing your article, they won't do extra work, if not they won't be going article submission site to source for article.
