Web 2.0, does it sounds familiar to you? Who care what is it when it doesn't come near to you, but when it come near to you, you would feel kiasu and wanted to know more. The same thing happen to me, I have heard about this term a few times until one day I really can't stand it to force myself searching for info, understand it to avoid from leaving behind.
The first thing came into my mind is wikipedia(Web 2.0), but once I am in, I am stuck. I do have some better understanding, but what does it mean and how important is it to us? It seem like already exists and it just trying to define a new era of internet or more appropriately an evolution of internet or you can say it's just like god upgraded monkey (as if Web 1.0) to human(as if Web 2.0) . That's it. This is just a lay man understanding. If you go through the video above, you will get a better picture of what is web 2.0.
Web 2.0 by example, O'Reilly
Web 1.0 Web 2.0 DoubleClick –> Google AdSense Ofoto –> Flickr Akamai –> BitTorrent mp3.com –> Napster Britannica Online –> Wikipedia personal websites –> blogging evite –> upcoming.org and EVDB domain name speculation –> search engine optimization page views –> cost per click screen scraping –> web services publishing –> participation content management systems –> wikis directories (taxonomy) –> tagging ("folksonomy") stickiness –> syndication
Based on the video and some example, Web 2.0 is all about relatiohship or network that is being created on the web which form a social network. The machine is us and all of us is teaching the machine to know better because we as humans only have a finite amount of information we can store and understand, the only way we can progress + evolve is through technology. In some ways, this is how we will "upgrade" our brain, our selves.
